Comments: As I’ve stated, I don’t make lists. And I especially don’t make lists when shopping for clothes. If I’m out to buy clothes, I look around, and see if there’s anything I like. If I don’t see anything, I don’t buy anything. This woman obviously does not shop that way. She has listed in detail what articles of clothing she needs to buy. Does one really need that variety of bermudas? “pj pants & shirt”…doesn’t everyone have a “shirt”? Does she really need a specific one to go with a new pair of pj pants? Also, how does one manage to misspell “waterproof”? I would love to know what kind of person lists so many details about bermuda shorts, yet lists no details for “books”.

I don’t make lists. I just think to myself “I’m smart, I’ll just remember the things I have to do/buy.” Unfortunately, I underestimate my forgetfulness. For me? It’s no big deal. For others, lists are a way of life. Some people just need that sense of order and control; they can see their tasks, check them off, and feel like they accomplished something.

In this digital age of smart phones, text messaging, and mobile internet, I’m fascinated by the number of people who write lists on paper. As I wander stores aimlessly looking around, trying to remember what I was supposed to buy, I always seem to come across people’s discarded lists, usually crumpled into a ball and thrown on a shelf or in a cart.

Over the years, I’ve been collecting them. Why? Because these lists are strange, and fun, and sometimes disturbing. Or maybe I’m just weird. Who knows?

The Discarded List is my collection of, well, discarded lists that I’ve found and scanned. And none of these lists are “fake”. They are just lists I’ve found…you know, because I don’t make lists. I just find them, and scan them. :)
